The brake lamps illuminate when the ignition switch is in position ’II’ and the brake pedal is depressed. The reverse lamps illuminate when the ignition switch is in position ’II’ and the gear selector lever is in the reverse position.
Operation
Feed from the battery positive terminal is connected to fusible link 5 of the engine compartment fuse box (C0632-1) by a brown wire. Current passes through fusible link 5 (C0570-2) which supplies a feed to the ignition switch (C0028-1) on a brown/white wire. When the ignition switch is in position ’II’ (C0094-1), current flow across the switch to fuse 6 of the passenger compartment fuse box (C0580-9) on a white wire.
Fuse 6 (C0580-12) supplies a feed to both the brake pedal switch (C0075-1) and the reverse lamp switch (C0167-1) on green/yellow wires.
Brake Lamps
When the brake pedal is depressed, the brake pedal switch closes and current flows across the switch. The brake pedal switch (C0029-1) supplies a feed on a green/purple wire to;
- The centre high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) (C0832-1).
- The trailer pick-up (C0499-6).
- The LH tail lamp (C0121-2).
- The RH tail lamp (C0125-2).
- On Td5 engined vehicles, the ECM (C0658-16), to help control fuelling.
The lamps and the trailer pick-up are earthed on black wires.
Reverse Lamps
When reverse gear is selected, the reverse lamp switch is closed. Current flows across the switch (C0167-2) to the LH reverse lamp (C0472-2) and the RH reverse lamp (C0455-2) on green/brown wires. The LH reverse (C0472-1) and the RH reverse lamp (C0455-1) are earthed on black wires.
