Home > My Land Rover Blog > Insulating a Defender roof to stop condensation - Land Rover Blog
It got to the point that I was really fed up with the condensation forming on the roof of my Defender. During the really humid, wet days in winter, the headlining would be saturated and would drip inside the vehicle. To fix this, I decided to insulate the roof.
This could be done with the roof in place, but I had to remove the roof anyway to get the Defender in the garage so I could change the rear axle. Phew. It made the job a lot easier.

I used foil backed bubble wrap insulation and some trim adhesive spray. To fill the gaps between insulation panels I used foil tape. I only filled the gaps between roof ribs, rather than covering the ribs themselves. The result has been brilliant - the roof headlining has never dripped water in the 6 years since this modification. I'm sure not only would it be great in cold environments, but hot ones too.
