The cable operated hand brake is fitted to 300Tdi Defenders onwards.
My handbrake had never been great. It required a lot of pulling on to make it work hold on hills and adjusting the cable didn't seem to do much. So I decided to replace the handbrake shoes (ICW500010), retaining springs (ICW100050) and the drum (SDC100200) as I found a good deal on a genuine item. The drum and shoes were badly scored.
The job is a bit fiddly because of the springs, and it's very easy to get the shoes the wrong way around. See the photos for the correct orientation.
